Delta Air Lines has issued a waiver code to provide customers with additional flexibility when purchasing a Basic Economy (BE) fare. This waiver allows customers to apply a wholly unused BE ticket toward the purchase of a new reservation (either another Basic Economy fare or a fare in the Main Cabin or a Premium Fare) less a Cancellation Charge.

To qualify, the reservation associated with the original BE ticket must be canceled prior to departure; failure to do so will result in forfeiture of the full value of the ticket.

Applicability

• Applies to wholly unused tickets
  • Ticket validity on the original ticket must still be met
  • Please note: Basic Economy (BE) Cancellation Charge Exception does not apply in all markets. Check the fare rules for details.
  • If no Basic Economy Cancellation Charge is listed in the fare rule, then no changes or cancellations are permitted to Basic Economy tickets in that market.

Reissue Guidelines

• The value of an unused BE ticket may be applied toward another Basic Economy fare or a fare in the Main Cabin or a Premium Fare less the Cancellation Charge
• The Cancellation Charge must be collected at time of reissue and noted as a penalty in the exchange transaction
  • Please refer to the fare rule to determine the Cancellation Charge amount
• Add-collect any difference in fare; if the new fare is lower in value, a voucher may be issued for the residual value
  • U.S.-based travel agencies that settle through Airline Reporting Corporation (ARC) may issue a residual value MCO
  • Travel agencies that report via Billing & Settlement Plan (BSP) must contact Delta for all Residual Value Non-Refundable transactions; please contact Global Sales Support or Delta Reservations for assistance
• When reissuing the ticket, enter the waiver code 5AI4O in the ticket designator box on the new ticket
  • If there is an existing ticket designator, place the waiver code in the tour code box
  • If both the ticket designator and tour code boxes are being used, then place the waiver code in the first position of the endorsement box
• Failure to deduct the Cancellation Charge and/or include the waiver code on the ticket as noted above may result in a debit memo for failing to properly document the ticket
• The original non-refundable value carries over to the new ticket; note this amount in the endorsement box
