Infant Electronic Tickets (ETs)

Reminder: Travel Agents must issue a zero value ticket for infants not occupying a seat, traveling on domestic flights within the 50 United States, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, on flights operated by Delta and Delta Connection®.  

Delta can receive, accept, and process infant electronic tickets (ETs) issued via other airlines, GDSs, and all system providers that have an Interline Ticket Agreement with Delta that allows infant e-ticketing on Delta-operated flights.

In addition to the Interline Ticket Agreement, each GDS, airline, and system provider will need their technology department to enable their systems to issue infant ETs.

Additional Information

• Airport check-in processes have been enhanced and will no longer require paper infant tickets.
  
• Delta will use industry standard messaging to change the status of the Infant ETs issued by an agency or other airline to indicate FLWN within 24 hours of departure.
  
• Delta will refuse acceptance of an ET from an agency or other airline if the date of birth (DOB) of the infant changed to two years old during the trip. GDSs will receive an error message when this condition is met.
  
• Delta will not accept fully OPEN segment infant ETs. All coupons must have a booked flight segment.
  
• Delta no longer issues paper tickets.  If a ticket needs to be reissued an electronic ticket will be issued.  
  

Contact the GDS or system provider with questions about whether or not an Interline Ticket Agreement exists with Delta that allows infant e-ticketing on Delta-operated flights. 

Adding Infant Name and SSRs to a PNR – Sample GDS Entries

Infant Name Field: NM1CORE/ALAN MR (INF/WILLIAM/04JUN07)

Adding Infant on adult ticket already issued: 2/(ADT) (INFMILLER/TIMOTHY/21OCT10)

• If the Infant Passenger Type is specified within a name element, the system automatically creates Infant SST elements to be sent to the appropriate airlines
  
  
• If the Infant Passenger Type has not been specified in a name element, add an Infant SSR element manually. Infant SSR elements must be passenger- and segment-associated 

Note: At least one air segment must be present in the PNR before the INFT SSR element can be added. 

For an infant not occupying a seat, use the format:

Step 2: Add the Infant SSR Message

Step 3: Add the Infant SSR Secure Flight details

• Add the Secure Flight SSR message for an infant not occupying a seat: 3DOCS (assume all segments)/DB/(date, month, year of birth:DDMMMYY)/( infant gender code)/(mandatory last name)/(mandatory first name)/(optional middle or second name, or initial)-(PNR name number)
                
• Add the Secure Flight SSR message for an infant occupying a seat: 3DOCS (assume all segments)/DB/(date, month, year of birth:DDMMMYY)/(regular gender code)/(last name)/(first name)/(middle or second name, or initial)(PNR name number for passenger)

Domestic Travel

Effective for travel on/after December 12, 2017, Infants traveling on domestic flights within the 50 United States, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands are required to issue a zero value ticket for travel on flights operated by Delta and Delta Connection®, for an infant not occupying a seat.  

Travel agents are asked to:

• Continue to add an infant SSR (INFT) for each lap infant in the PNR to indicate an “infant in arms” is traveling
• Issue an infant eTicket at zero value, for customers traveling on/after December 12, 2017.
  • The process and information needed should be the same as what your GDS requires for issuing infant eTickets on international itineraries.
  • If needed, please refer to your particular GDS Help Desk, as procedures may vary by GDS.
    

In addition:

• Due to FAA safety requirements, one lap-held infant is allowed per one adult passenger.
  
• Infants under two years of age for the entire trip may still travel as a lap held infant at no charge.
  
• If an adult passenger is traveling with two infants, a seat must be purchased for the additional infant.
  
• Infants occupying a seat on domestic flights require a ticket; and pay the applicable fare.

International Travel – Not Occupying a Seat

Infants traveling internationally not occupying a seat will pay 10% of the applicable adult fare plus applicable taxes.

• Regardless of infant fare type, all applicable taxes and surcharges must be collected.
  
• Infants traveling with adults on an upgraded ticket will pay 10% of the adult fare based on the cabin in which they travel.
