Medical Fare Program   

In the event of a medical emergency that affects a customer’s immediate family member, customers may have to travel at the last minute. Delta offers fares for medical emergencies.

Reservations must be booked and ticketed by Delta Air Lines. Travel agents may contact Delta Reservations for booking, pricing, and program rules.

  • Between the 50 United States and Canada, Puerto Rico or the U.S. Virgin Islands
Immediate Family Member Definition

The list of immediate family includes any adopted/great/half/step/in-law version of list below.

Eligibility

The program is valid for SkyMiles Members needing to travel due to medical emergency of an immediate family member who is suffering ill health. If a customer is not currently a SkyMiles member, they may immediately join SkyMiles by enrolling via delta.com.

To qualify for a medical emergency fare:

  • The ill family member must be hospitalized or under registered hospice care. They may be at their residence provided they are registered in a hospice program and that information is verifiable.
  • The customer may be an organ donor who does not have to be an immediate family member who is traveling to or from a hospital for organ transplant procedures.
  • The customer must travel to and from the location of hospital or hospice or hospice home. 
    Exception: On a case-by-case basis Delta may allow travel to a city other than the location of the hospital, but one that is nearby so the customer can meet family members and drive to the hospital.
Required Documentation

The following information (if applicable) is required to purchase a ticket using discounted Medical Fares:

  • The name and relationship of the ill family member and the name of the hospital / hospice or at home under hospice care or,
  • The name of the hospital the organ donor is traveling to and,
  • The phone number of the hospital or hospice

Purchase Requirements

Customers may book a maximum of seven (7) days in advance of travel.  Tickieting is required at time of booking. Required documentation is subject to verification.

Stopover / Open Jaw
  • Stopovers are not permitted.
  • A single open jaw is permitted only if the published fare rule allows.
  • Open returns are not permitted.
Same Day Travel/Standby
  • Customers may use Same Day Travel; fee does not apply.
  • Customers may use Paid Standby; fee does not apply.
